2011-Highlights

2011 Highlights:

VOLUNTEER DELEGATION TO APPALACHIA

On September 26th – 28th, 2011, five members of the Westport Council, four from the Long Island Council and two from Westport went to visit Save the Children’s programs in McCreary County in Appalachia, near Berea, Kentucky.  Participating in home visits, as well as visiting schools, these delegates were able to see first hand, the quality of Save’s programs and their impact on the community.  Despite the poverty, broken families and rampant drug abuse, Save is able to break the cycle and help these families in need.  Long Island delegates, Trudy Calabrese, Mary Jo Balkind, Bowen Miller and Maggie Viklund all returned with a renewed enthusiasm for the organization and an eagerness to raise awareness and funds for our U.S. Programs in Appalachia.
